The artifact names its Blueprint version, its generator and the agents behind it.

Provenance is written while the build runs, not reconstructed afterwards. Each artifact carries the product it belongs to, the Blueprint version it implements, the generator version that produced it, the agents that contributed, the policy profile in force, the commit and the artifact identifier. The same Blueprint version, generator version and capability versions produce the same artifact again, so a build is reproduced rather than re-approximated. When something in production behaves oddly, the first question — what is this and where did it come from — is already answered on the artifact.

Recorded at the moment of build

Provenance is captured by the system doing the work, at the time it does it. Nobody fills in a form afterwards, and no side register drifts out of date. The record travels with the artifact instead of living in a wiki beside it.

Enough detail to rebuild

The record holds the Blueprint version, the generator and capability versions, the policy profile and the dependency versions pinned at build time. The Blueprint says what the software must mean; the generator and its target adapter decide what it is built with, and both are named here. Give the same inputs and the same artifact comes back — output does not drift from one run to the next.

Agent contributions are named

Where an agent contributed — architecture, implementation, review, QA — the record names which agent and for what. A reader can confirm that the agent which reviewed a change is not the agent that wrote it, without taking anyone's word for it. The model provider behind each agent is recorded too, so a routing change stays visible months later.

In this capability

  • Product and Blueprint version
  • Generator and capability versions
  • Contributing agents named
  • Commit and artifact identifier
